Today, Watersley resident Kim van ‘t Verlaat has been named as one of the sports heroes of her hometown, the municipality of Nissewaard.

Because of Covid-19, 2020 was a special sports year, which suddenly made sports life look very different. Despite that, many beautiful sports performances have been delivered. During the online sports gala Nissewaard 2020, Kim was revealed as a sports hero for her performance at the European Championship Duathlon. “The reward for the hard work was already there with a bronze medal, but this really feels like the icing on the cake”, said Kim. “Despite a very crazy and difficult year, it’s good to see the municipality is coming with such an initiative. Hopefully, there will be a year with more races so all athletes can show themselves again at their best!”

In the Spanish Punta Umbria, Kim finished third and took the bronze medal, her first medal at an international championship.
