Meet the team; Q&A Silke
Meet Silke Smulders
18 years old, 1st year U23 rider from Loon op Zand, Noord Brabant.
As many cyclists or kids in Holland, Silke first started speed skating when she was young. During summer, speed skaters keep themselves fit on a race bike.
And so it begins… Too bad for skating, but what a stroke of luck for cycling. Silke has huge potential, which she already showed last year, coming in 13th at the Junior World Championships in Yorkshire.
She likes hard and especially hilly races, which she will be having enough of within the program of the R&D Team.
Silke is a first-year student in Sustainable Innovation at the TU University in Eindhoven, where she hopes to specialize herself in renewable energies, such as climate change.
She likes being on the road with her teammates and doing races in foreign countries.
If she’s not racing or studying, she spends time with her boyfriend Bodie. Silke is a ´foodie´ and loves cooking.
Favorite snack: Ricecake with peanutbutter
Favorite band: Tom Odell
Favorite kitchen: Japanese
Example: Chantal van den Broek-Blaak
Study: Sustainable innovation

Make a roadtrip outside Europe.
Who do you like to trade for a day with?
Adele, that voice!
What do you want to achieve in our society?
To make the world more sustainable. Climate change is a big challenge for all of us now and in the future.
What I love most about cycling is?
It’s a very challenging sport, you can discover so many new places.
And being on the road with my teammates to races or training camps.
Best thing about Limburg is?
The hills and of course the ‘Limburgse vlaai’!
